AI assistant
Ask an AI app such as Claude Desktop questions about your own trading. It reads the journals you allow, takes every figure from Tradelics, and cannot change anything.
What it is
Tradelics includes a small connector that runs on your PC. An AI app that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), such as Claude Desktop, can use it to look things up in your journal and answer in plain language: how a month went, which symbols cost you the most, what your notes keep coming back to.
The numbers are not estimated by the AI. They are calculated by Tradelics with the same code as the dashboard, over the same scope: all accounts, including archived ones, and closed trades. Every answer states the scope it used, so you can check it against the dashboard.
What it can and can’t see
Tradelics itself sends nothing anywhere. The connector runs entirely on your PC and never sees your prompts or your keys.
The AI app you connect does send data. When you ask a question, the app (for example Claude Desktop) passes the figures and trades it needs to its own provider (for example Anthropic) to write the answer. That happens under the provider’s terms and privacy policy, not ours. Read them before you switch this on.
- Off by default. Until you switch on Allow AI assistants, a connected assistant gets no data, only a note on how to switch it on.
- Journal by journal. The assistant sees only the journals you tick. Every other journal is invisible to it.
- Notes and review answers are never read unless you switch that on. It is a separate setting and off by default.
- Account numbers and broker IDs are left out unless you switch that on. It is a separate setting and off by default. Accounts then appear by display name only.
- Read-only. The assistant cannot add, edit or delete trades or change settings. Its one action is to ask the running Tradelics to open a trade on screen, starting Tradelics if it is closed.
- Your control. Changes apply to the assistant’s next question. You can switch it off again at any time.
Set up in Claude Desktop
Claude Desktop is the officially supported app. You need Tradelics with a licence or an active trial, and Claude Desktop installed and signed in.
- In Tradelics, open Preferences → AI assistant and switch on Allow AI assistants.
- Under Journals, tick the journals the assistant may read. Use Add journal… for one that is not listed.
- Under What is shared, decide whether to share Notes and review answers and Account numbers and broker IDs. Both are off by default.
- Under Connect an assistant, click Install in Claude Desktop. Tradelics saves
Tradelics.mcpbto your Downloads folder and selects it in Explorer. - In Claude Desktop, open Settings → Extensions → Advanced settings → Install Extension…, choose
Tradelics.mcpb, then confirm. - Back in Tradelics, click Test connection. It reports how many of your shared journals the assistant can read. Then ask Claude a question in a new chat.
The assistant works while Tradelics is licensed, during a trial and in read-only mode. If no trial was ever started, or the trial has expired, it answers that a licence is required until you activate one in Tradelics.
Questions that work well
Ask in your own words. These are good starting points:
- “How am I doing overall?”
- “How did I do last month?”
- “What are my best and worst symbols?”
- “How do I perform by weekday and by entry hour?”
- “Compare my buys and my sells.”
- “Which strategies and tags make me money?”
- “What was my maximum drawdown?”
- “Show me my five biggest losses.”
- “Tell me about trade #123 and open it in Tradelics.”
- “Do a weekly review.”
Trades are always cited by their Trade #, the number in the Trade # column of the trades table, so you can find the same trade in Tradelics.
Tradelics also provides ready-made prompts: Weekly review, Why did I lose this month, Rule & playbook audit, Compare two periods, Review one trade and Themes in my notes. Where they appear depends on the AI app. Questions about your notes only work when you have switched on Notes and review answers.
After you update Tradelics
Claude Desktop keeps the old connection running after Tradelics updates, so it keeps using the previous version until you restart the connection.
To pick up the new version, open Settings → Extensions in Claude Desktop and switch the Tradelics extension off and on again. Quitting Claude completely from its tray icon, then starting it again, does the same.
Other AI apps
Only Claude Desktop is officially supported. Other apps that can use MCP servers should work with the configuration Tradelics provides, but we do not test or support them.
- In Preferences → AI assistant → Connect an assistant, choose your app under Format for, then click Copy configuration.
- Add it to the MCP server configuration of your AI app, then restart that app.
- Click Test connection in Tradelics to check that the connector starts.
Which format to choose:
- Cursor, Claude Code, LM Studio and similar: use the Claude Desktop and most apps format.
- Codex (the Codex tab in the ChatGPT desktop app, and Codex CLI): choose Codex. Add the text to
config.tomlin the.codexfolder of your user profile, or run the command in its first line. ChatGPT’s regular chat cannot connect to programs on your PC; use the Codex tab. - OpenClaw: choose OpenClaw. Add the text to your OpenClaw configuration, or run the
openclaw mcp addcommand in its first line.
The same privacy rules apply: the app you connect sends the data it requests to its own provider.
